Crockfords Clerical Directories contain detailed alphabetical entries for all the 'Church of England' Vicars working in those years, with a list of previous appointments and years, theological college attended (as known) along with current address and earnings (fees etc.) and any relevent publications. Numerous other lists: by Parish and Cathedrals. Many overseas vicars and missionaries attached to the Church of England are also listed for some years ...

The Clergy List 1850 and 1881 gives a simple alphabetical list of clergy and their post for that year only. Also a list of benefices gives more details: year started in that post, who was the curate, patron, value of post and population. List of the Clergy in Ireland(1881). Private Patronage and value.

The Church Directory and Almanack 1908,1936,1937, (plus Supplement 1944 limited to movements and Obituary 1943-4) gives almost as much information as Crockfords but much abbreviated.

I am unable to answer questions about current / very recent vicars as my copyright permission does not allow for this.

Standard Look-up Fee: Eight pounds UK or equivalent in other currency, each vicar researched.

1. Send me an email with the vicar's name and church location and the possible years to search or the date of death.

2. I will search the volumes for an entry - you will get a reply within 24 hours - if there is an entry the standard fee will then apply. A scanned entry will usually be sent as an attachment to an email as a jpg file, named using the vicars's name and the volume date. Some of the more difficult abbreviations may also be expanded to make the entry understandable.

3. Sometimes additional information can be found in other books in my collection, a school record, or if you are researching your family history, the vicar's address at various times may be important to you. (additional cost of two pounds UK .. total £10 an entry )

4. Sample entries and Crockford's abbreviations will be found lower down this page.

5. If my search does not find an entry then there will not be a charge.

Crockford's Clerical Directory 1932 Movement List

This list is taken from the supplement added to the back of a Crockfords for 1932 and includes all those who changed their positions after the main work (2021 pages) had been printed. As there is another list for Ordinations (not reproduced here) it means that all these people should be represented in the main work along with thousands of others not listed here. Some of these clerics had been working since the 1890s.

This list should be of interest to family historians, family history, church history, and some still living may still remember these.
