Say No To Adverts!

Sorry some of my sites use them - it is the only way to get large amounts of free webspace!

Print or save this page for future reference as you will need to undo this!

How To Prevent Advert Popups, Automatic downloads, and all sort of unwanted stuff.

Switch off your "Java." What java does is let websites to take control of your browser.


It is probably best to leave the java switched on until you hit websites with adverts, then use the process below.
With the java off, things like Hotmail will not work - so learn how to do this - and how to turn it on and off at will. You need to close the browser window after enabling - and restart the browser to get Hotmail to work again (you do not need to shut down your computer!)

Explorer 4.x / 5.x Go to "View /Tools | Internet Options... from the top bar of Internet Explorer (images from IE5.5)

Change to the "Security" tab (see below)

 

Select "Custom"

 

You should be in"Settings"

Scroll down the list half way

To disable and get rid of the pop-up adverts: make sure "Disable" is selected under "Active scripting"

Pop-ups will not now appear

When you enable active scripting again - close and restart the browser

Disabling Java in Netscape
If you are using Netscape version 4
Click on "Edit" at the top of your page
Click on "Preferences"
Click on "Advanced" at the left side of the page
Click on the "Enable Javascript" box so that there is no check mark in it
Click "OK"


If you are using Netscape version 3
Click on "Options" at the top of your page
Click on "Network Preferences"
Click on the "Languages" tab at the top
Click on the "Enable Javascript" box so that there is no check mark in it
Click "OK"
